United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland is the full official name of the UK, which is made up of England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland. Originally, the Celts people resided in Scotland, Ireland and Wales with their own culture. England was invaded by the Anglo-Saxons who brought a new and different culture. Differences between the regions still exist today.

The UK is one of the safest countries of Europe. However, crime rate is on the increase so it is unwise to carry a large amount of cash or walk the streets alone during the late night time.

The UK's area is 244820 square km with the population of 59 million.
Climate:
Due to its northern position, many people think the UK is a cold place. On the contrary, the climate is much milder than many countries which are located south of the UK. In England, summer is mild with the average July temperature of 18 degrees. Some hot days are in excess of 30 degrees. The temperature rarely drops below the freezing point in most areas.
Scotland is colder with the average summer temperature of 14 degrees and below freezing is quite common in winter. In all areas, weather changes quickly.
Time:
GMT is the internationally recognised time system adopted by the UK. Time is forwarded by one hour on the last Sunday of March and the clocks are put back one hour on the last Saturday of October each year.
